Sunday NFL Countdown

ESPN’s flagship Sunday morning NFL pregame show that delivers three hours of breaking news, game previews, and in-depth analysis every week.

Sunday NFL Countdown is an American NFL pregame programme that debuted on ESPN on September 7, 1985, under the name NFL GameDay. It was renamed NFL Countdown in 1996, then Sunday NFL Countdown in 1998. Now in its 41st season, it is one of the longest-running sports studio shows in American television history.

Each Sunday, the show airs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET, giving fans a comprehensive three-hour preview of the day’s NFL action. The format covers breaking injury news, game previews, in-depth analysis, and feature stories from around the league. In addition, NFL insider Adam Schefter appears throughout each broadcast, delivering real-time roster updates and news.

Mike Greenberg hosts the program, having taken over ahead of the 2024 season. Already a familiar face at ESPN — known for nearly two decades on Mike & Mike and as the current host of Get Up — Greenberg replaced Samantha Ponder. Joining Greenberg is a panel of former NFL standouts: three-time Super Bowl champion Tedy Bruschi, Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss, two-time Super Bowl champion Rex Ryan, and former Pro Bowl quarterback Alex Smith.

Sunday NFL Countdown has been home to some iconic figures during its run, including the legendary Chris Berman. He served as the program’s host for an extraordinary 31 seasons — from 1986 through 2017. Following his departure, Samantha Ponder took over the hosting duties from 2017 until 2024. Other notable former contributors include Tom Jackson, Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, Ron Jaworski, and Charles Woodson.
