Saturday Today is the Saturday edition of NBC’s Today show, one of the most storied franchises in American television. It premiered on August 1, 1992, expanding the Today brand to seven days a week, five years after the Sunday edition launched in 1987
The broadcast follows the same format as its weekday counterpart — a blend of breaking news, interviews with newsmakers, human-interest features, health and finance segments, and national weather updates. It is tailored to a weekend pace, with a slightly more relaxed tone while still maintaining the credibility and depth associated with the broader Today brand. A popular recurring feature is Saturday Today on the Plaza. This summer series brings live music performances and Broadway productions to the outdoor plaza at Rockefeller Center in New York City.
Saturday Today is anchored by Laura Jarrett, with Joe Fryer as a features anchor, and Angie Lassman as a meteorologist. Jarret had previously co-hosted the show alongside Peter Alexander, who announced his exit from the network after 22 years.
In addition to the anchor team, the show also features contributions from other NBC news personalities, including Kathy Park, Tom Costello, Jill Martin, and Garrett Haake. Over the years, the program has also featured numerous notable hosts, including Lester Holt, Erica Hill, Sheinelle Jones, Craig Melvin, Kristen Welker, and Willie Geist.
