Paula’s Best Dishes

Paula Deen rescues viewer recipes and shares her favorite Southern recipes and family traditions in this comfort-food cooking series.

Paula’s Best Dishes is an American cooking show that debuted on Food Network on June 8, 2008. It served as a successor to Paula Deen’s earlier hit, Paula’s Home Cooking. The new format brought a fresh energy, with friends and family joining Deen in the kitchen. It quickly became one of Food Network’s most-watched daytime programs.

In each episode, Deen helped “rescue” recipes sent in by viewers, transforming them into polished dishes. Episodes typically featured three to four recipes built around a theme, such as “Game Day Favorites” or “Celebration Desserts.” Deen would introduce the theme, then cook alongside guests while sharing stories and Southern humor. Her sons, Jamie and Bobby Deen, made frequent appearances throughout the show’s run.

The show came to an abrupt end in 2013 after Food Network announced it would not renew Deen’s contract, following controversy over her admitted use of a racial slur and racist jokes at her restaurant. The decision effectively canceled Paula’s Best Dishes alongside her other Food Network programs. It also marked the end of Deen’s 11-year run with the network.

Despite the cancellation, much of the show’s library lives on through Paula Deen’s own streaming platform. She later purchased the rights to over 400 episodes from both Paula’s Best Dishes and Paula’s Home Cooking, moving them to her personal website. The show remains a defining piece of her television legacy, even after her network departure. Fans can still revisit classic episodes through Paula Deen’s official channels and select streaming platforms.
