Next Level Chef is an American reality culinary competition series that premiered on FOX in 2022. It was developed by Gordon Ramsay to find the next global culinary superstar. The competition pits different types of chefs against each other in a multi-level environment, with professional chefs, home cooks, and social media influencers all competing on an even playing field.
The show’s defining feature is its vertical three-tier kitchen. Each floor offers different levels of equipment and ingredients. The top floor is a state-of-the-art facility with premium tools. The middle floor is a standard commercial kitchen. The basement is a low-resource environment with limited, often outdated equipment.
A moving platform delivers ingredients from the top down. Chefs on the upper level get the first choice of supplies. Those in the basement must work with whatever is left behind. This “platform” mechanic forces contestants to think quickly and adapt their recipes on the fly.
Each season starts with contestants divided into three teams, each led by a mentor. The teams compete in themed challenges, with contestants from the losing teams eliminated. In later stages of the season, the competition shifts into individual challenges, with one winner taking home $250,000 and the title of Next Level Chef.
Renowned restaurateur and chef Gordon Ramsay serves as host and lead mentor of Next Level Chef. He is joined by fellow chefs Nyesha Arrington and Richard Blais, who mentor and evaluate the contestants as they tackle themed culinary challenges.
