NBC Nightly News

NBC Nightly News premiered on August 3, 1970, replacing the Huntley-Brinkley Report as NBC’s primary evening newscast. Produced by NBC News, the program was established to deliver comprehensive national and international reporting in a half-hour format. Since its launch, it has become one of the most recognized evening news broadcasts in American television history.

Airing weeknights, NBC Nightly News covers major domestic and global stories, politics, business, health, and international affairs. The program blends anchor-led reporting with field coverage from correspondents stationed in Washington, overseas bureaus, and major U.S. cities. It also features investigative reports and special segments that provide deeper context beyond daily headlines.

The traditional 30-minute broadcast remains a staple of the linear schedule, but the show has evolved to include extended digital segments and deep-dive investigative pieces. These updates enable the program to deliver real-time information while maintaining the high production standards of a network newscast.

The weekday edition is currently anchored by Tom Llamas, who took over from Lester Holt in 2025. Llamas, who also hosts the streaming program Top Story, made history as the first Latino to lead a weekday evening network newscast in the U.S. José Díaz-Balart anchors the Saturday edition, and Hallie Jackson anchors the Sunday edition, ensuring consistent coverage throughout the week. It also features contributions from other NBC News personalities, including Al Roker, Kate Snow, Sam Brock, Kristen Welker, Morgan Chesky, Andrea Mitchell, and Tom Costello.
