Monday Night Countdown

Monday Night Countdown is the official pregame show for Monday Night Football on ESPN and ABC. The program airs each Monday night during the NFL season, leading into the kickoff of ESPN’s nationally televised game and the ABC telecasts.

The show debuted in 1993 as NFL Prime Monday. It was one of the first instances of cross-pollination between ABC and ESPN sports coverage. It was then renamed Monday Night Countdown in 1998, inspired by its sister program, Sunday NFL Countdown.

The program features a two-hour live broadcast that offers a preview of Monday Night Football, often broadcasting directly from the stadium. It blends tactical analysis of the upcoming matchup with a comprehensive recap of the previous day’s NFL storylines.

It also offers a mix of expert breakdowns from former players, high-energy fan interactions at tailgates, and signature segments like “You Got Mossed!” In addition, the production features in-depth player interviews and investigative reporting to set the stage for the week’s final game.

Scott Van Pelt currently serves as the lead host, bringing his signature late-night energy to the pregame desk since taking over in 2023. He is joined by a team of analysts, including Jason Kelce, Ryan Clark, and Marcus Spears. Longtime insider Adam Schefter and reporter Michelle Beisner-Buck also serve on the show’s regular broadcast crew.
