Mexican Made Easy

Chef Marcela Valladolid makes authentic Mexican cuisine accessible with simple, fresh, and flavorful recipes.

Mexican Made Easy is a cooking show that aired on Food Network from January 23, 2010, to September 1, 2012. The series features Valladolid sharing simple and authentic Mexican recipes, transforming common misconceptions about the cuisine into healthy and easy-to-prepare home meals. The show was filmed in San Diego, California — just miles from Tijuana, where Valladolid grew up. This gave it an authenticity that set it apart from many other cooking programs of its era.

Each episode centered on a specific theme — a family dinner, a backyard cookout, a kid-friendly kitchen session. Valladolid showcased a variety of dishes in each episode, from appetizers and main courses to desserts. She also demonstrated traditional Mexican cooking techniques and utensils like the molcajete and comal. The half-hour format was fast-paced and focused — no filler, just cooking. That straightforward approach built a loyal audience throughout its run.

Marcela Valladolid served as the show’s sole host during its run. Born in San Diego and raised in Tijuana, Mexico, her culinary career began at her aunt’s cooking school in Baja. She later trained at the Los Angeles Culinary Institute, then completed classical French pastry training at the Ritz Escoffier Cooking School in Paris. Before her Food Network career, Valladolid worked as a staff editor and recipe stylist at Bon Appétit magazine and competed on The Apprentice: Martha Stewart in 2005.

Mexican Made Easy may have concluded its run, but it remains a go-to resource for Mexican cooking. It played a significant role in celebrating diverse culinary traditions on national television. Fans still enjoy re-watching episodes for inspiration in their own kitchens.
