CBS Weekend News

CBS’s weekend evening news broadcast, delivering the day’s top national and global stories every Saturday and Sunday.

CBS Weekend News is the weekend edition of CBS Evening News, the flagship nightly news program for CBS. The network’s evening news’ weekend editions date back to 1966, originally anchored by veteran correspondent Roger Mudd. The network adopted the CBS Weekend News branding in 2016, when it revamped its weekend news offering with a refreshed format and new anchors.

The broadcast covers the day’s most significant national and international stories, drawing on a blend of reporting from CBS News correspondents stationed around the world, contributions from local CBS affiliates, and content from CBS News 24/7, the network’s streaming news channel. The format mirrors that of the weeknight CBS Evening News but is tailored to the weekend, incorporating weekly news highlights alongside fresh coverage of developing stories.

The show has cycled through several anchor pairings since adopting the CBS Weekend News brand in 2016. Reena Ninan anchored Saturdays, and Elaine Quijano anchored Sundays from the program’s relaunch until 2020. They were succeeded by chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett and Los Angeles correspondent Jamie Yuccas, who anchored on an interim basis during the COVID-19 pandemic after production at the CBS Broadcast Center was temporarily disrupted.

In 2020, CBS News promoted correspondents Adriana Diaz and Jericka Duncan into permanent anchor roles, with Diaz leading Saturdays and Duncan leading Sundays. Diaz departed CBS Weekend News in September 2024 to become a co-host of CBS Mornings Plus. In October 2024, CBS announced that Duncan would take over both the Saturday and Sunday editions, making her the sole anchor of the weekend broadcast.
