Alex vs America

Three culinary experts with the same specialty battle Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli in blind-tasted rounds to prove they are the best.

Alex vs America is a culinary competition show that has aired on Food Network since 2022. It features Iron Chef winner Alex Guarnaschelli competing against a rotating lineup of accomplished chefs from across the country.

The show pits Guarnaschelli against three specialist chefs per episode in two back-to-back rounds. In Round 1, all four chefs cook using a shared theme or specialty ingredient tied to the challengers’ expertise — a territory specifically chosen to put Alex at a disadvantage. A pair of guest judges evaluates the dishes through a blind taste test, and the lowest-scoring chef is eliminated. The remaining two challengers then face Alex in Round 2, another blind-judged cook-off, with the overall winner taking home $15,000.

The show’s challenges are deliberately designed to exploit Guarnaschelli’s weaker areas. Past episodes have featured shellfish specialists, chocolatiers, Thai cuisine experts, Mexican chefs, and pastry professionals — cuisines Alex openly acknowledges are outside her comfort zone. Season 5, which premiered on October 7, 2025, leaned further into this concept under the theme “Alex’s Nightmares,” featuring Tournament of Champions winners, fellow Chopped judges, and restaurant teams competing alongside their sous chefs.

Alex vs America is hosted by Eric Adjepong, who guides the competition and provides commentary throughout each round. Alex Guarnaschelli serves as both competitor and executive producer. Guest judges rotate by episode and include chefs, restaurateurs, and food experts.
