Zinhle Essamuah is an American broadcast journalist, filmmaker, and news anchor known for her reporting on justice, culture, and social policy. She attended George Washington University, earning a Bachelor of Arts and, later, a Master of Arts in media and public affairs. While in college, she produced the documentary Hands Up, which examined the Black Lives Matter movement.
Essamuah began her professional media career in digital journalism and filmmaking. Shen then joined NowThis, where she helped launch the company’s Washington, D.C., bureau as a lead politics producer. She later became a political correspondent and anchor of KnowThis, reporting on major issues including the 2018 and 2020 U.S. elections, gun violence, immigration policy, and public health.
She joined NBC News in October 2021 as a correspondent. In 2023, she was promoted to co-anchor of NBC News Daily alongside Kate Snow. In addition to her role at NBC, she is an adjunct lecturer at George Washington University and frequently moderates events for organizations such as the United Nations and the Aspen Institute.
