Wayne Riley was born on 17 September 1962 in Sydney, Australia. No verified information on his parents was found in reliable sources.

He turned professional at just 15, starting out on the PGA Tour of Australasia, where he won four times, including the 1991 Australian Open.

Wayne came through European Tour Q-School in 1984 but had to wait over a decade for his first win there — the 1995 Scottish Open at Carnoustie, where he beat Nick Faldo by two shots — followed by the 1996 Portuguese Open.

He represented Australia in the 1996 Alfred Dunhill Cup and 1997 World Cup, reaching a career-high world ranking of 62.

Since 2005, Riley has been an on-course commentator for Sky Sports Golf with fellow presenters such as Iona Stephen and Rich Beem, becoming known for his wit and on-air stunts — including dressing as Elvis and donning a bear costume at PGA National’s Bear Trap.
