Vicky Nguyen is a celebrated investigative reporter and anchor for NBC News. Born in Saigon, she fled Vietnam with her family as an infant, surviving a perilous journey across the South China Sea and months in a Malaysian refugee camp before immigrating to the United States. She attended the University of San Francisco and graduated valedictorian with a degree in communications and a minor in biology.
Nguyễn began her journalism career in 2000 at Central Florida News 13 in Orlando, later working as a reporter in Reno, Nevada, and Phoenix, Arizona. In 2007, she joined NBC Bay Area (KNTV), where she served as anchor and senior investigative reporter before moving to New York as senior consumer investigative correspondent for NBC News. At NBC, she has reported for Today, Nightly News with Lester Holt, MSNBC, and NBC News Now, and co-anchors NBC News Daily.
Nguyễn’s reporting has won numerous awards, including regional Emmys, an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award, the Gerald Loeb Award, and others for investigative journalism. In 2025, she published her memoir Boat Baby, chronicling her family’s journey from Vietnam to America and her path to journalism. She lives in New York with her husband and three daughters.
