Stephen Fry was born on 24 August 1957 in London, England. His father, Alan Fry, was a physicist and inventor, and his mother, Marianne Fry, had Austrian-Jewish heritage.
He was educated at several schools, including Uppingham School, before studying English literature at Queens’ College, Cambridge. At Cambridge, he became involved in comedy through the Footlights, forming a famous partnership with Hugh Laurie.
Fry began his career in the early 1980s in television comedy, gaining fame through shows like A Bit of Fry & Laurie and Blackadder. He later expanded into film, writing, and broadcasting.
In 2003, he became the original host of QI on BBC Two, where he presented questions and guided comedic discussions for over a decade. He stepped down in 2015 after Series M and was replaced by Sandi Toksvig.
Fry lives in the UK with his husband, Elliott Spencer and continues to work as a writer, narrator, and public figure, maintaining a strong presence in British culture.
