Stan Verrett was born in New Orleans around 1966 and attended Augustine High School there. He graduated from Howard University in 1989, earning recognition as one of the year’s two outstanding journalism graduates. Verrett began his broadcasting career as a radio DJ, later becoming a sports anchor in Virginia’s Hampton Roads area.

Verrett joined ESPN as an anchor for ESPNEWS in September 2000, following stops at local stations in Norfolk, Virginia. In 2009, he moved to ESPN’s new Los Angeles studios to co-anchor the late-night SportsCenter with Neil Everett. He also became studio host of ESPN’s college football coverage on ABC in 2016, succeeding the late John Saunders. Verrett anchored SportsCenter from Los Angeles for 16 years before his ESPN contract ended in 2025.

Since parting ways with ESPN, Verrett has taken on several new broadcasting roles. He became pregame host for the New Orleans Saints and joined FanDuel Sports Network as studio host of Clippers Live. He also anchors the network’s weekday whip-around show, Countdown Live. Verrett reunited with Everett to co-host The Stan and Neil Show on Twitch.
