Sophie Raworth was born on 15 May 1968 in Redhill, Surrey, England. She grew up in southwest London and developed an early interest in languages and communication. After completing her studies in French and German at the University of Manchester, she trained as a journalist at City, University of London.
Raworth began her journalism career in the early 1990s and joined the BBC in 1992. She first gained prominence presenting regional news before moving to national television as a co-presenter on BBC Breakfast.
She later became a regular presenter of major BBC bulletins including BBC News at Six and BBC News at Ten. In 2006 she was appointed the main presenter of BBC News at One, a role that made her one of the most recognisable newsreaders in the UK.
She lives in London with her husband, Richard Winter and their three children. She is also known for her love of marathons, (having ran over 10 London Marathons and six Major World Marathons) and charity work in areas such as cancer and animal welfare.
