Sammi Kinghorn was born on 6 January 1996 in the Scottish Borders, Scotland. She grew up on her family’s farm in Berwickshire, where her father worked as a farmer, shaping her strong connection to rural life.
At age 14, she suffered a life-changing accident when a forklift bucket her father was operating crushed her, leaving her paralysed from the waist down. During rehabilitation, she was introduced to wheelchair sports, which led her to take up racing.
Kinghorn quickly rose through the ranks to become one of Britain’s top wheelchair racers, winning multiple World Championship medals and achieving success at the Paralympics, including gold at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
In 2023, she expanded her career into television, joining Countryfile on BBC One as a guest presenter, where she highlights rural life and farming issues.
She continues to balance elite sport with media work and lives in the UK, maintaining strong ties to her family farm and countryside upbringing.
