Ronan Patrick John Keating was born on 3 March 1977 in Dublin, the youngest of five children. He grew up in Bayside in Kilbarrack, County Dublin, and in County Meath. His father, Gerry Keating, was a lorry driver; his mother Marie was a mobile hairdresser. He has one sister, Linda, and had three brothers: Ciarán, Gerard and Gary. Ciarán died in 2023.
Ronan was just 16 years old when he auditioned for Boyzone in Dublin, becoming the youngest member of the group. He was inspired to audition because his family didn’t have much money, and the band sounded “right up his street.” Louis Walsh, the talent manager setting out to form an “Irish version of Take That,” chose him. Boyzone performed at various pubs and clubs before signing to PolyGram in 1994, and went on to sell 40 million records worldwide.
Ronan Keating’s Wild Atlantic is a BBC Northern Ireland and BBC Daytime co-commission, produced by Alleycats TV, taking audiences on an epic journey around the west coast of Ireland. The series aired on BBC One Northern Ireland and BBC iPlayer from Monday 16 March 2026 and on BBC Two from Monday 6 April 2026. What started as a travel series evolved into a deeply personal journey of grief — exploring the west coast that his late brother Ciarán loved before his death in a car accident in 2023.
Keating is married to his Australian second wife Storm Uechtritz. Their son Cooper Archer Keating was born on 26 April 2017, and their daughter Coco Knox Keating was born on 27 March 2020. On 10 March 2023, Keating became a grandfather for the first time when his son Jack announced the birth of a baby girl.
