Richard Fraser

Profile Overview

Richard Fraser’s stonemasonry career began while he was still at school, spending his summers working for his uncle’s slating and harling company in Aberdeen, before joining a roofing company in Inverness.

He was subsequently headhunted to become a Trainee Building Conservation Technician by the pioneering firm Laing Traditional Masonry, where he developed his craft working exclusively on Grade A listed buildings, including St Magnus Cathedral in Orkney and King’s College at Old Aberdeen University.

Richard rapidly progressed to become one of Laing’s key site foremen and a multi-site manager, spending time training and mentoring the next generation of conservation craftspeople, many of whom went on to found their own successful companies in the north of Scotland.

In 2006, Richard moved to Edinburgh and set up as a sole trader to support his studies in Architectural Conservation and his growing family. He registered LimeRich as a limited company in 2014, and it has since become one of Edinburgh’s leading lime specialists. He also has prior professional experience at GLM, CRMS Ltd, SGStone, and Fraser Building Conservation.

In 2025, Richard joined the expert team on The Repair Shop: On the Road on BBC One, making his debut in the Scottish Highlands, where he restored two wartime murals drawn by Polish soldiers hidden in the servants’ quarters of a historic house near Nairn.
