Renee Montgomery

Profile Overview

Renee Montgomery was born in St. Albans, West Virginia, and grew up in South Charleston. She played basketball in high school, leading the  South Charleston High School basketball team to three West Virginia state championships. She went on to play for the University of Connecticut, where she won the 2009 NCAA National Championship. The Minnesota Lynx then selected her fourth overall in the 2009 WNBA Draft, launching an 11-year professional career. 

During her playing career, Montgomery earned WNBA All-Star honors in 2011 and captured back-to-back WNBA championships with the Minnesota Lynx in 2015 and 2017. She officially retired from the WNBA in 2021 and joined the ownership group that purchased the Atlanta Dream. This made her the first former player to become both co-owner and executive of a WNBA franchise.

Since retiring, Montgomery has built a prominent media career alongside her ownership role. She co-hosts Women’s Sports Now, which launched on Roku before moving to ESPN, and serves as an analyst for CBS Sports. She also hosts the podcast Montgomery & Co. through Think Tank Productions. Additionally, she is a co-owner of the FCF Beasts in the Fan Controlled Football League, making her the first female owner in that league.
