Nina Louise Warhurst was born on 28 October 1980 in Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester, and grew up in Sale before moving to Salford as a teenager. She attended local schools and later achieved a first-class MA in History and Politics from the University of Edinburgh, followed by a postgraduate diploma in broadcast journalism at the University of Westminster.
Warhurst began her career with acting roles in the late 1990s before transitioning into journalism at Russia Today in Moscow. She returned to the UK and worked for Channel M before joining the BBC in 2010, presenting on East Midlands Today and BBC North West Tonight. Her work included political reporting and covering major events such as the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Nina Warhust is married to Ed (Ted) Fraser, a caterer. The couple have three children. She has opened up about her family’s experiences with dementia and balances a busy career with raising her children in Manchester.
In 2018 she started reporting for BBC Breakfast and was appointed its main business presenter in October 2020. In 2025 she became lead presenter of BBC News at One, broadcasting from Salford.
