Sir Nicholas Alexander Faldo was born on 18 July 1957 in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, England, the only child of George and Joyce Faldo. He took up golf at 14 after watching Jack Nicklaus play the 1971 Masters on his parents’ new colour TV, and within four years was English Amateur and British Youth Open Amateur champion.

He turned professional in 1976, becoming one of the most successful golfers in European Tour history: 30 European Tour wins (5th all-time), nine PGA Tour wins, and six majors — three Masters (1989, 1990, 1996) and three Open Championships (1987, 1990, 1992).

He was ranked world number one for 97 weeks and holds Europe’s Ryder Cup points record across 11 appearances, later captaining the 2008 European team. He was awarded an MBE in 1989 and knighted in 2009.

Since retiring from full-time competition, Faldo has built a prominent broadcasting career, including 16 years as CBS Sports‘ lead golf analyst (2007–2022) and, more recently, as a regular contributor on the Sky Sports Golf podcast and Sky’s Open Championship coverage.

He has been married four times and has four children, and currently resides in Bozeman, Montana, and Orlando, Florida.
