Mike Holmes was born on August 3, 1963, in Halton Hills, Ontario, Canada. He developed an interest in construction while working with his father, who taught him building and renovation skills from an early age. Holmes started his own contracting company at 19 and spent years building and renovating homes across Ontario. His practical experience and commitment to quality workmanship established the foundation for his television career.
Holmes entered television in 2003 with Holmes on Homes, helping homeowners repair defective renovations caused by poor workmanship. The show’s success led to Holmes Inspection, Holmes Makes It Right, Holmes and Holmes, Holmes: Next Generation, Holmes Family Rescue, and several other series. Throughout his career, he has championed higher building standards, healthier homes, and skilled trades education.
Holmes continues expanding his television career with his children, Michael Holmes Jr. and Sherry Holmes. In 2026, they returned for the second season of Holmes on Homes: Building a Legacy, helping homeowners recover from dangerous renovations and construction failures. Beyond television, Holmes remains active through the Holmes Foundation, public speaking, books, and industry initiatives that encourage young people to pursue careers in the skilled trades.
