Michelle Miller was born on December 8, 1967, in Los Angeles, California. She was placed for adoption at birth and was raised by her physician father, Dr. Ross Miller, and her paternal grandmother. She attended Howard University in Washington, DC, and later studied at the University of New Orleans. Before joining CBS, her career included roles at the Los Angeles Times, ABC News Nightline, WWL-TV in New Orleans, and WIS-TV in South Carolina.

Miller joined BET News in 2004 as a national correspondent and substitute anchor before moving to CBS News that same year. Over her two-decade CBS tenure, she covered the killings of George Floyd, Trayvon Martin, and Michael Brown; the Sandy Hook shooting; the March for Our Lives; the Middle East refugee crisis; and the coronation of King Charles III. She was named co-host of CBS Saturday Morning in July 2018 alongside Dana Jacobson, a role she held until November 2025.

Michelle Miller remains a CBS News national correspondent, contributing to CBS Mornings, CBS News Sunday Morning, and 48 Hours. In 2023, she published the memoir Belonging: A Daughter’s Search for Identity Through Love and Loss, which chronicles her adoption and lifelong search for her biological mother.
