Michel Roux Jr. was born on 23 May 1960 in Pembury, Kent, England. He is the son of renowned chef Albert Roux and nephew of Michel Roux Sr., founders of the iconic restaurant Le Gavroche.
He was educated in France and initially trained outside the kitchen, including time working in finance and even serving in the French military. However, he later returned to his culinary roots, training under top chefs in France.
Roux Jr. joined the family restaurant Le Gavroche in London, eventually becoming head chef. Under his leadership, the restaurant retained two Michelin stars for many years, cementing his reputation as one of the UK’s leading chefs.
He became widely known to television audiences as a judge on MasterChef: The Professionals on BBC One, serving from 2009 to 2019.
He lives in London and Switzerland and continues to work in hospitality, consultancy, and media alongside his family life.
