Michaela Strachan was born on 7 April 1966 in Ewell, Surrey, England. She trained at the Arts Educational Schools in London and began her career in theatre before transitioning into television in the mid-1980s.
She first rose to fame presenting children’s programmes such as The Wide Awake Club and later co-hosted The Hitman and Her. Over time, she shifted into wildlife broadcasting, becoming a household name through The Really Wild Show and later Countryfile.
Since 2011, Strachan has been a regular presenter on BBC’s Springwatch, Autumnwatch, and Winterwatch on BBC Two, solidifying her role as a leading wildlife presenter.
She has also hosted a variety of factual and interview-style programmes, including projects like Adventures in Conversation, alongside documentaries and conservation series across multiple channels.
Strachan currently lives in Cape Town, South Africa, balancing her broadcasting career with family life and conservation work.
