Michael Sheen was born on 5 February 1969 in Newport, Wales, to Meyrick and Irene Sheen, both keen amateur theatre and operatics performers. The family later moved to Baglan, near Port Talbot, which Sheen considers his hometown.
After training at RADA and building a celebrated stage career through the 1990s, Sheen became known on screen for his portrayals of real people — most notably Tony Blair, David Frost, and Brian Clough — and later for roles in Good Omens, Masters of Sex, and Prodigal Son.
In 2026, Sheen fronts Buried with Michael Sheen, a BBC Two/BBC One Wales investigative documentary series exploring alleged toxic chemical dumping in South Wales. He has also taken over as host of BBC Two’s House of Games.
Sheen lives in Wales with long-term partner Anna Lundberg and their two young daughters, and also has an adult daughter from a previous relationship.
