Meredith Vieira is an American broadcast journalist and television personality. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1953, Meredith Vieira began her journalism journey in radio before transitioning to television news in the late 1970s. She rose to prominence at CBS, where she was a correspondent for 60 Minutes and West 57th before moving to ABC News. In 1997, she pivoted to daytime television as the founding moderator of The View.
In 2006, she replaced Katie Couric as Today’s co-anchor, a role she held until 2011. She hosted the syndicated Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and her own talk show, The Meredith Vieira Show, from 2014 to 2016. Since 2019, she has hosted the syndicated show 25 Words or Less.
Vieira was married to Emmy Award-winning journalist and author Richard M. Cohen on June 14, 1986. Cohen passed away on Christmas Eve 2024 at the age of 76 after a five-decade battle with multiple sclerosis. They have three children: Benjamin, Gabriel, and Lily.
