Matthew Charles Tebbutt was born on 24 December 1973 in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England, and moved to South Wales while still young. After gaining a diploma from Leiths School of Food and Wine in London, he trained in prestigious restaurants including those of Marco Pierre White and worked with chef Alastair Little, whom he cites as a major influence.
Tebbutt and his wife managed The Foxhunter restaurant in Nant-y-derry, Monmouthshire for over a decade, winning the AA Restaurant of the Year for Wales before he shifted focus to television.
He began TV work by guest presenting on Saturday Kitchen in 2009, later becoming the regular host following James Martin’s departure. He co-presents Food Unwrapped on Channel 4 and has appeared on Market Kitchen, Drop Down Menu, Great British Menu and ITV’s Save Money: Good Food.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic he co-hosted Daily Kitchen Live on BBC One. In 2025 it was announced he would join MasterChef: The Professionals as a judge, expanding his TV role. Off camera, Tebbutt lives in Monmouthshire, Wales with his wife, Lisa, and their two children.
