Martel Maxwell was born on 9 March 1977 in Dundee, Scotland. She was raised there and attended the High School of Dundee before initially pursuing a legal career.
She studied law at the University of Edinburgh and later completed postgraduate legal studies at the University of Dundee. However, she chose to move into journalism instead of practicing law.
Maxwell began her career in print journalism, working for The Sun for several years before becoming a freelance writer and columnist. She later transitioned into broadcasting, contributing to shows like The One Show and Lorraine.
In 2017, she joined Homes Under the Hammer on BBC One, becoming a regular presenter on the long-running property series.
She lives in Scotland with her husband and three sons, continuing her work in television, journalism, and writing
