Marcus Wareing was born 29 June 1970 in Southport, Lancashire, England. His father worked as a fruit and potato merchant supplying produce to schools, and Wareing helped him pack potatoes as a child, gaining his first experience in the food industry.
He attended Stanley High School in Southport, where he discovered his talent for cooking. Wareing later studied catering at Southport College, completing a three-year City & Guilds qualification in catering.
He began his professional career at The Savoy Hotel in London in 1988 as a commis chef and later worked in prestigious kitchens including Le Gavroche, where he worked alongside Gordon Ramsay. Over time he became one of Britain’s leading chefs and restaurateurs, earning Michelin stars and opening several well-known restaurants in London.
Wareing gained national recognition through television. Since 2014 he has been a judge on MasterChef: The Professionals on BBC One, mentoring chefs alongside other judges. He has also presented shows such as Marcus Wareing’s Tales from a Kitchen Garden.
He lives in England with his wife, Jane while continuing to run food businesses, write cookbooks, and appear regularly on television.
