Marc Summers was born Marc Berkowitz on November 11, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Passionate about performance from an early age, he moved to Los Angeles after studying broadcasting at Grahm Junior College in Boston. There he worked as a magician, radio DJ, stand-up comedian, and CBS studio page before his big break arrived. In 1986, Nickelodeon hired him to host Double Dare, a chaotic, slime-filled game show that became a landmark in children’s television.
Summers hosted Double Dare and its spin-offs for nearly a decade, building a loyal following of young viewers. He followed with multiple hosting gigs, including What Would You Do?, Pick Your Brain, and Biggers and Summers. Despite battling OCD — a challenging condition given Double Dare‘s inherently messy format — he continued to thrive through cognitive behavioral therapy and public advocacy.
In 2001, Summers became the face of Food Network’s Unwrapped, hosting the show’s history-of-candy format for a decade. He also served as executive producer of Dinner: Impossible and Restaurant: Impossible on Food Network. After surviving three cancer diagnoses and a serious 2012 car accident, he launched the Marc Summers Unwraps podcast in 2023 and made his off-Broadway debut in 2024.
