Liz McIvor is a British historian and broadcaster known for presenting the BBC documentary series Canals: The Making of a Nation, which aired on BBC Four in 2015.

She grew up in Manchester (Didsbury), where her interest in history and canals was shaped by her father and early exposure to local heritage. Her passion for industrial history later guided her academic and professional career.

McIvor studied History at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, graduating with a first-class degree, before completing a Master’s in Museum Studies at the University of London.

Alongside her television work, she has held senior roles in the heritage sector, including Curator of Social History and Technology at Bradford Museums and Galleries and later manager of the Co-operative Heritage Trust.

She lives in Manchester with her wife, Louise and two children and continues to work as a historian, author, and public speaker on Britain’s industrial heritage.
