Kaviraj Singh

Profile Overview

Kaviraj Singh grew up in Leeds in the North of England and later moved to Leicester in the Midlands. He is the third son of eminent musician Dharambir Singh, and began his music career at the age of five playing santoor, tabla, and singing.

Growing up in a musical household, Kaviraj said that learning to repair instruments was “really just out of necessity.” His father was a sitar player who needed repairs and adjustments for himself and his students, so Kaviraj simply started and learnt on the job.

Singh became known to television audiences when he joined The Repair Shop, a BBC programme where skilled experts restore sentimental items. The show airs on BBC One.

He made his debut on the show in March 2021, where he restored a broken sitar brought in by a family, highlighting both his technical skill and cultural knowledge.

Outside television, he continues to work professionally as an instrument repairer and musician, focusing on preserving traditional Indian musical heritage.
