Katie Couric is an Emmy Award-winning American journalist, author, and media entrepreneur with a 45-year broadcasting career spanning several networks. Born on January 7, 1957, in Arlington, Virginia, United States, she attended the University of Virginia, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in American Studies in 1979. She began her journalism career as a desk assistant at ABC News and later worked at CNN before joining NBC News in 1989 as a correspondent.
Couric rose to national prominence when she became co-host of NBC’s Today in 1991, a role she held for 15 years. During her tenure, she conducted major interviews and reported on significant national events, becoming one of the most recognizable journalists in American television. In 2006, she moved to CBS News, becoming the first woman to anchor the CBS Evening News alone, and she later hosted the syndicated daytime talk show Katie (2012–2014).
Since leaving network anchoring, Couric has focused on digital journalism and media production through Katie Couric Media. She also writes books, produces documentaries, and hosts the podcast Next Question with Katie Couric. She is married to financier John Molner and has two daughters from her first marriage.
