Jules Hudson was born 9 January 1970 in Colchester, Essex, England. He is the son of Pam Hudson, who ran a bed-and-breakfast for decades, and Cliff Hudson, a mechanical engineer and technical director. Growing up in a busy guesthouse environment helped shape his outgoing presenting style.
Hudson attended Colchester High School and later Ipswich School, where he boarded from the age of eleven. After school he studied Field Archaeology at Lampeter University and later completed a master’s degree in archaeology at Durham University. He also trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and served as a reserve army officer.
His television career began in 1996, working as a producer on historical and documentary programmes for channels such as the Discovery Channel and Channel 4. He later worked on shows including Time Team and Horizon before moving into presenting roles.
Hudson became widely known when he joined BBC One’s Escape to the Country as a presenter in 2007, helping families find rural homes across the UK. He has also presented Britain’s Empty Homes, Defenders of the Sky, and appeared regularly on BBC One’s Countryfile.
He lives in Herefordshire with his wife and son and is also a writer and contributor to countryside magazines and heritage publications.
