Born on September 17, 1965, in Seoul, South Korea, Juju Chang immigrated to the United States with her family in 1969, settling in Sunnyvale, California. A nationally ranked swimmer in her youth, she graduated with honors from Stanford University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts in political science and communications, earning the Edwin Cottrell Political Science Prize.
Chang joined ABC News straight out of Stanford as an entry-level desk assistant. She steadily rose through the ranks, becoming a producer for World News Tonight, a reporter for KGO-TV in San Francisco, and a correspondent for ABC’s NewsOne in Washington, D.C. She became a recognizable on-air presence as co-anchor of the overnight show World News Now (1999), then as news anchor for Good Morning America (2009–2011) — a role that made her the first Korean American journalist in a prominent US morning TV position.
In 2014, Juju Chang became the full-time co-anchor of Nightline and remains in the role today. She is also a regular contributor to Good Morning America, 20/20, and IMPACT x Nightline on Hulu. On the personal front, Chang is married to media executive Neal Shapiro. The couple has three sons: Jared, Travis, and Mason Shapiro.
