Joshua Paul Mankiewicz was born in Berkeley, California, into a family with deep roots in American media and politics. He is the son of Frank Mankiewicz, a former press secretary to Robert F. Kennedy, and the brother of TCM host Ben Mankiewicz.
He began his professional journalism career in 1977 as a reportorial producer and correspondent for ABC News. Before joining NBC, he refined his investigative skills as a political reporter for KCAL-TV in Los Angeles and a correspondent for WCBS-TV in New York, establishing a reputation for tenacity and thoroughness.
Currently, Mankiewicz is one of the lead correspondents for Dateline NBC, where he has reported on hundreds of stories ranging from the O.J. Simpson trial to complex cold cases. Beyond television, he has successfully transitioned into the digital space, hosting several chart-topping true-crime podcasts, including Motive for Murder and Internal Affairs.
