Jonathan Reid was born in 1993 in Sheffield, England. Details about his parents are not publicly documented. He grew up in a city historically known for its steel and tool-making industries, which influenced his later career.
Before entering traditional craftsmanship, Reid worked in digital marketing, holding roles in SEO, PPC, and content creation across several companies in the UK and Germany.
He later transitioned into heritage craft, becoming a production manager and “putter” (scissor assembler) at Ernest Wright, Sheffield’s last remaining handmade scissor manufacturer. He trained under master craftsmen, learning a skill now considered critically endangered.
Reid gained wider recognition through his appearances on The Repair Shop, broadcast on BBC One. On the programme, he restores and sharpens traditional scissors, a rare and highly specialised craft.
He continues to work in Sheffield, helping preserve traditional British manufacturing skills while contributing to heritage conservation.
