Jade Catta-Preta was born on February 19, 1984, in São Paulo, Brazil, and moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, at age 12. Television became her English teacher — and, by her own account, the seed of her comedy career. She studied musical theatre at Emerson College, then moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting roles before breaking into the stand-up comedy scene.
Catta-Preta built a solid acting career, with appearances on several TV shows, 2 Broke Girls, Punk’d, Manhattan Love Story, The Jim Gaffigan Show, Return of the Mac, and Life in Pieces. She was also featured on MTV’s Girl Code and had notable roles on Daddy Knows Best, Californication, and Future Man.
In 2020, she became the host of the revival of E!’s beloved pop culture commentary show The Soup, a role previously held by Joel McHale. However, the revival was cut short by the pandemic. In 2022, she moved on to a new role, as the host of Hulu’s Hotties, a spicy, blind-date cooking competition, which she also judges. Beyond TV hosting, Jade Catta-Preta continues to tour as a stand-up comedian and to appear in television comedies.
