Ian Ziering was born on March 30, 1964, in Newark, New Jersey, and grew up in nearby West Orange. He graduated from West Orange High School in 1982 and later attended William Paterson University in New Jersey. Ziering broke into television with small guest roles before landing his signature part in 1990.
Ziering was cast as Steve Sanders on Beverly Hills, 90210 in 1990, a role he played for the show’s entire ten-season run. He also voiced Vinnie on the animated series Biker Mice from Mars throughout the 1990s. In 2007, Ziering competed on the fourth season of Dancing with the Stars, reaching the semifinals with partner Cheryl Burke. He then hosted the series Your Mama Don’t Dance in 2008 and HGTV’s A-List Pets in 2013.
Ziering competed on Worst Cooks in America: Celebrity Edition in 2018. He then joined the DC Universe series Swamp Thing as Blue Devil in 2019. He returned to reality competition as a contestant on France’s Danse avec les stars in 2026. As of 2026, Ziering hosts The Great American Road Rally: Celebrity Edition on The CW, which follows celebrity teams on a cross-country charity road trip.
