Gethin Jones

Gethin Clifford Jones was born on 12 February 1978 in Cardiff, Wales. He is the son of Sylvia Jones, a violin teacher, and Goronwy Jones, a school headteacher who spent decades working in education. He grew up in a Welsh-speaking household and has an older sister named Mererid.

Jones attended Ysgol Gynradd Coed-y-Gof and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf in Cardiff. He later studied Economics and Geography at Manchester Metropolitan University, where he also played rugby and captained the university’s first team.

After university he worked various jobs including a bank clerk and research assistant before moving into broadcasting. His television career began on the Welsh-language channel S4C, where he presented youth and children’s programmes such as Popty and Uned 5 between 2002 and 2005.

In 2005, Jones became the 31st presenter of the BBC children’s show Blue Peter. He later worked on major programmes including The One Show, entertainment shows, and documentaries. Since 2020, he has been a regular host of the weekday BBC magazine programme Morning Live, which airs on BBC One.
