George Oliphant was born in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and grew up as a competitive ski racer before becoming an extreme skier. He studied film at the University of Colorado Boulder and began working in children’s theater, where he built stage sets and developed practical construction skills. In 2003, he made his first television appearances with MTV and later worked on First Look New York and Open House.

Oliphant became a familiar face on Open House, where he developed Open House to the Rescue, a renovation segment focused on helping people improve their homes. In 2010, NBC turned the concept into George to the Rescue, with Oliphant serving as host and working alongside contractors and design professionals. The series visits families and communities facing difficult circumstances and uses donated expertise, materials, and labor to complete major renovations.

Oliphant continues to host and executive produce George to the Rescue, which has remained in production through at least its 16th season. The program has received multiple Emmy nominations and wins, while Oliphant has also received Emmy recognition for his television work. Beyond broadcasting, he works as a licensed home improvement contractor and remains involved in community renovation projects.
