Fred Fletcher is the fourth of Steve Fletcher’s five children, and the only son among four sisters. His exact date of birth is not publicly available. His mother’s identity has not been confirmed publicly. He grew up immersed in the world of horology through his father and the wider Fletcher family legacy.
The Fletcher family’s clockmaking tradition stretches back to 1910, when Fred’s great-great-grandfather Fred Fletcher Sr began his apprenticeship at White’s watch repairers in Witney. The business passed to Fred’s great-grandfather John Fletcher, and then to his father Steve, making Fred the fourth generation of horologists in an unbroken family line.
Fred joined his father’s Clock Workshop in Witney in 2020 as an apprentice clockmaker, following studies at a college for science and engineering. He made his television debut on The Repair Shop in 2022, helping his father restore the largest timepiece ever attempted on the programme, a nearly three-metre-tall clock built by a guest’s late father for a display at the World Trade Centre in Dallas, Texas.
Fred’s second Repair Shop appearance came in 2025 during a VE Day special episode, where he and his father restored a cockpit clock from an aircraft carrier used by 101-year-old veteran John Holloway.
Steve said of the repair: “My son, Fred, who’s over there — he’s done some very fine work to the mechanism. I needed a younger set of eyes to help me.” Fred is based in Witney, Oxfordshire, where he continues to train and work at The Clock Workshop.
