Edith Bowman was born in Anstruther, Fife, Scotland, in January 1974. She grew up in her parents’ family-run hotel, where she developed a strong work ethic and an interest in meeting people from different backgrounds. Her mother is Eleanor Bowman; her parents were prominent figures in the local hospitality business.
She attended Waid Academy in Anstruther before studying Communication Studies at Fife College and later Media and Communication at Queen Margaret College (now Queen Margaret University) in Edinburgh. While studying, she gained work experience at Radio Forth, which launched her broadcasting career.
Bowman’s first television role was as a newsreader on MTV UK. She went on to host numerous music programmes, including Hitlist UK, RI:SE, Top of the Pops, festival coverage for the BBC, and major live music events.
She later became one of BBC Radio 1’s most recognisable presenters, hosting Colin and Edith, the weekday afternoon show, and The Radio 1 Review Show. She also worked with BBC Radio 2, BBC Radio 3, Virgin Radio, and Channel 4. In 2023, she co-presented Coast to Coast Food Festival on BBC Two alongside Colin Murray and Sean Fletcher.
Bowman lives in Gloucestershire with her family and continues to work in broadcasting, podcasting, music, and film journalism.
