David Garrido was born to Colombian parents and speaks Spanish fluently alongside French and German. He studied French and German at Oxford University, where his broadcasting career began at the student radio station Oxygen FM, hosting a sports show and eventually becoming sports editor.

His professional break came in 2000 when he won the BBC Talent competition, earning a six-month presenting contract with BBC News 24. He went on to become the main sports voice for BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat from 2003, while also reporting for Match of the Day, Football Focus, Final Score and BBC World News.

In 2011 he joined Sky Sports News, where he has anchored Transfer Deadline Day coverage, presented Formula 1 (including Melbourne, Monaco and Silverstone Grand Prix), and hosted live LaLiga, Premier League and EFL football. He also produced and presented the documentary Gibraltar: No Rock Unturned (2014).

More recently, David has taken on a sustainability-focused role at Sky Sports News, fronting Football’s Toughest Opponent and Playing for the Planet, and partnering with bodies like UEFA, the FIA and the R&A on climate and purpose-driven sports content.
