Danny Campbell was raised near Helensburgh, Scotland. His exact date of birth is not publicly documented, though reports from 2024 confirm he is currently 33 years old. He attended Hermitage Academy in Helensburgh, where Graphic Communication was the only subject he felt a real aptitude for, and his mother encouraged him to pursue architecture. He played rugby for Helensburgh RFC from age 5 to 18.
He studied at the Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 2012, then completed a Master’s degree at De Montfort University in Leicester in 2015. After graduating, he took a spell working as a labourer in Canada before returning to Scotland. He has never worked for another architecture firm but worked across various consultancies before establishing HOKO Design in 2016.
HOKO Design, Campbell’s architectural startup, was valued at £15 million just two and a half years after launch, and secured six-figure backing from investors including those associated with private equity firm Cairngorm Capital. Hoko operates across multiple UK cities including Glasgow, London, Birmingham, Bristol, Brighton, and Inverness.
Danny was approached for the presenting role on Scotland’s Home of the Year by an ex-employee of HOKO who had joined the production team and suggested the producers get in touch. He joined the judging panel for Series 6 in 2024, replacing Michael Angus, and has continued on the panel through to the current Series 8 in 2026.
Danny is married to Melissa, who holds a PhD in psychology and works at Lenzie Academy in Glasgow. The couple have three sons: Teddy, Dougie, and D-Rex.
