Dan Patrick

Profile Overview

Dan Patrick was born on May 15, 1956, in Zanesville, Ohio, and grew up in Mason, Ohio. His father worked in the computer science department at the University of Dayton, where Dan later transferred after beginning on a basketball scholarship at Eastern Kentucky University. While working at CNN in the early 1980s, his boss advised him to adopt his middle name, Patrick, as his on-air surname — a decision that would define his public identity.

Patrick joined ESPN in 1989 as a SportsCenter anchor, quickly becoming one of the network’s most beloved voices. His signature catchphrases — including “En fuego” — became part of the American sports lexicon. After 18 years at ESPN, he departed in 2007 and launched the revamped Dan Patrick Show, producing and syndicating it independently through Premiere Radio Networks.

The show, featuring Patrick alongside his crew of producers known as “the Danettes,” is one of the most listened-to sports programs in the country. Broadcast daily on the radio, it also streams on Peacock and, since November 2025, has simulcast on the relaunched NBCSN. Patrick also served as a senior writer for Sports Illustrated and co-hosted NBC’s Football Night in America.
