Christian Fraser was born 13 November 1973 in Burnley, Lancashire, England. His father worked as a newspaper editor while his mother worked in a coffee shop; she died relatively young due to heart disease.
He attended Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Blackburn and later graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University with a degree in Spanish and Business Studies. After university he completed training with the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) before entering the media industry.
Fraser began his journalism career in 1995 with Trinity Mirror, working for the Sunday Mirror and Daily Mirror. In 2000 he joined the BBC, initially working as an investigative reporter for BBC Radio 5 Live. He later reported from war zones in Afghanistan and Iraq and covered international crises for BBC television.
He served as the BBC’s foreign correspondent in Nairobi, Rome, Cairo, and Paris, reporting on conflicts in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Arab Spring, and the Libyan civil war.
Fraser is now a chief presenter on the BBC’s global news channel and hosts The Context with Christian Fraser on BBC News and BBC World News. He lives in Barnes, London with his wife, Topaz Amoore.
