Chris van Tulleken is a British infectious-disease doctor, academic, author, and television presenter. Born in 1978 in London, he is known for BBC science programmes such as Operation Ouch! and Trust Me, I’m a Doctor. Alongside his twin brother Xand, he presents educational documentaries about health and medicine while also working as a professor and researcher at University College London.
He was educated at King’s College School in Wimbledon and later studied medicine at St Peter’s College, Oxford, graduating in 2002. Afterward he trained in tropical medicine at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and later completed a PhD in molecular virology at University College London (UCL).
Van Tulleken worked internationally as a doctor in humanitarian emergencies in countries including the Central African Republic, Pakistan, and Myanmar. His clinical work focuses on infectious diseases and public health.
He became widely known on television presenting science and medical programmes. With his twin brother he hosted Operation Ouch! on CBBC and later appeared on BBC documentaries such as Trust Me, I’m a Doctor on BBC Two.
