Charlie Dimmock

Profile Overview

Charlie Dimmock was born 10 August 1966 in West Wellow, Hampshire, England. She is the only child of Terry Dimmock, a merchant seaman, and Sue Kennedy, who owned a clothing shop. Growing up near the New Forest, she developed an early interest in gardening while helping her grandfather in the garden.

She attended Wellow Primary School and The Mountbatten School in Romsey before studying horticulture at Cannington Horticultural College. After finishing her studies, she worked at Romsey Garden Centre, gaining practical experience in garden design and landscaping.

Her television career began after a TV producer noticed her work building a garden pond for a programme. In 1997, she joined the BBC gardening makeover show Ground Force on BBC One, where she worked alongside Alan Titchmarsh and Tommy Walsh. The show ran until 2005 and made her a household name.

After Ground Force, she presented several gardening programmes including The Joy of Gardening, Charlie’s Garden Army, and coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show. Since 2016, she has been a presenter on Garden Rescue on BBC One, helping homeowners redesign their gardens.

In her personal life, Dimmock has faced tragedy after her mother and stepfather died in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. She continues to live in Hampshire and remains active in gardening media and charity work.
